Design Story Blake Mill brand partner and British punk rock icon John Robb used to rehearse in a room across the street from where Joy Division rehearsed, back when Manchester's music scene was still working itself out in cold basements rather than arenas. When Joy Division became New Order, the sleeve for Power, Corruption & Lies did something nobody expected from a post-punk record: a nineteenth-century oil painting of roses on the front, and on the back, a grid of coloured squares that turned out to be a cipher, spelling out the title to anyone patient enough to crack it. Order in Bloom keeps both halves of that idea. The flowers are the drawing room. The diamonds scattered through the print are the code. Most people will only ever clock the roses.
