Most men own at least one Christmas present they have never worn. It usually arrives with a reindeer on it, gets a polite “oh, lovely”, and spends the next decade at the back of the wardrobe. You already know you can do better, or you wouldn’t be reading this.
Start with him, not the shirt
You know his wardrobe better than he does. You know whether he reaches for the navy every time, or whether he has been quietly eyeing something louder. Our Find a Gift page sorts the range by the kind of man you’re buying for, so you can start there.
- If he keeps things understated, our solid-colour shirts look straightforward from across the room. Up close, the inside of the collar and cuffs carries one of our signature prints, and in some colourways the placket and yoke do too. He’ll find it the first time he rolls a sleeve.
- If he enjoys being looked at, go for the printed shirts. Each one starts with an artist and a real story behind the design, so when someone asks about it over Christmas lunch, he’ll have an answer ready.
- If he spends more time in galleries than shops, the L.S. Lowry collection puts the painter’s figures on cotton, Manchester connection and all.
- If he lives for his days off, the short-sleeve shirts have a more relaxed cut, made for holidays and long weekends.
What you’re actually paying for
The shirts are made from organic cotton sateen with a slight sheen. The collars are cutaway, and the mitred cuffs are lined with a contrasting print. We still use the same family-owned factory we started with, and plenty of our customers are wearing shirts they bought from us seven or eight years ago. When a gift lasts that long, the credit tends to go to whoever bought it. There’s more on how each shirt is made in Nine Steps to the “Perfect” Shirt.
Getting his size right without asking him
Find a shirt he already wears and likes, check the label, then compare it with our size chart. If he falls between two sizes, our customers usually prefer the larger one. If you’re still unsure, get in touch and the team will help you work it out.
The wrapping, the delivery and the part nobody likes to think about
Our printed gift tube costs £5. It’s made from rigid recycled cardboard, and most men end up keeping it for storage. UK delivery is free and usually takes two to three working days, with next-working-day delivery for orders placed before 4pm on weekdays. We also ship worldwide. Anything bought from 1 October can be returned until 21 January 2027, so he has plenty of time after Christmas to try it on, UK returns are free and you can return internationally for a small fee. If you genuinely can’t decide, a gift card from £25 lets him choose for himself.
Start with the gift edit, choose the shirt that sounds most like him, and add the tube if you’d want a truly unique gifting experience.
