Someone (Professor Brian Cox?) was on the television talking about 'Spiral' galaxies. Apparently, there are vast numbers of them. And they are staggeringly huge. They each contain up to a billion stars and are spread across trillions of miles of space. Makes you feel kind of small and insignificant doesn´t it? We started with some vague sense of trying to capture that scale. And promptly failed. So, in the best traditions of 'Plan B', we went for the shape of them instead.
